All About Brooklyn

Brooklyn Darkchild is a 52 years old mother of nine with a lifelong passion for writing. A New York transplant born and raised in (you guessed it) the borough of Brooklyn, Ms. Darkchild has called Atlanta her home since November 2012. Her gritty debut novel, This Ain't No Hearts and Flowers Love Story has been described as "raw" "hard hitting" and "pulling no punches." It won the 2008 Reader Views Book of the Year Award in the Great Lakes/Regional category and placed third in the Spiritual/Religion category.

A gutsy compelling page turner, the long awaited This Ain't No Hearts and Flowers Love Story Pt 2 was published in September 2009, and the sequel We Still Ain't Got This Right in September 2011. For booking info and group sales discounts contact me via the Contact Me page.

Why I Wrote This Ain't No Hearts and Flowers Love Story

I have always been a voracious reader
but when I got really sick in 2003 it took my reading to a whole 'nother level.
It wasn't long before I started to think I could probably write better stuff than I was reading.

The best book I read during that time was Disappearing Acts by Terry McMillan.
I could relate to Zora and all the things she went through.
THAT was the type of book I wanted to read; a love story with relationships like
the ones me and everyone I knew always seemed to find ourselves in;
a love story where:
people yelled and screamed and said things they know they'd Live To Regret;
people broke up their lover's stuff in fits of rage;
people loved each other deeply yet couldn't get past their own emotional baggage;
people can't seem to live with each other but can't seem to live without each other either.
A love story where love DOESN'T Conquer All.

So I Wrote It
